Pilgrim Service – De Profundis

Sunday 14th April

6.00pm

St James' Church

We now see Pilgrim’s world has closed in around him. He is in waders, with a staff to help him, picking his way slowly along the bed of a large sewer. On his left two sewage outlets pour their cargo of liquid ordure into the main drain; on his other side a rat scurries past him, while a nearby handrail stands festooned with wet wipes; and the smell – the smell is indescribable.

However, we see him in silhouette, so there is light some distance in front of him – an end to this current man-made world of chaos and nastiness - a new dawn, a new resurrection into somewhere infinitely more pleasant than where he is, but he has to travel through the depths to reach it. He grits his teeth and sets off again. Come and be a companion on this last stretch - you will be very welcome, and there is time for fellowship and refreshments afterwards.
