I hope you are all well and staying safe in these difficult times.

We had hoped to keep our village church open, for private prayer and to give people access to the prayer board. Unfortunately, this is not possible at the moment, so we have set up a virtual prayer board and a prayer chain instead.

If you would like prayers for yourself, or for anyone else (you only need to send the first name), email your request to compton.prayers@ShaftesburyCofE.org.uk  The names will be sent on, in confidence, to members of the prayer chain, who will pray regularly for those people. Your email address will not be sent on.

Please make sure you have permission before you send any personal information about anyone. It is fine just to send a name and we will pray for them.

God bless you all,

Helen Dawes (Team Rector) & Gillian Cross (PCC Secretary)

Broken Gravestones in Compton Abbas churchyard

Some of the memorials in Compton Abbas churchyard have been broken as a result of a tree from a neighbouring property falling into the churchyard. The tree has now been cleared and permission has been given to repair the broken memorials. If possible, the church should contact the families of the people commemorated.  These are the people named on the memorials:

  • Hugh James Barnes
  • Lottie Ridout
  • Mary & H.G. Victor Gray
  • Emily Rose Lucas
  • Eva Duke
  • Selina Lambert
  • The Brown family
  • Henry Jesse and Ada Louise Ridout
  • Ernest John & Alice Maria Foot
  • Ethel May Burridge
  • Cecily Elizabeth Hayter

If any of these people are members of your family, please contact the church office, which is open from 9am to 12 noon, Monday – Friday.  Contact details:
