On Sunday 24th March the Shaftesbury Team came together to bid farewell to Revd Simon Chambers and his family as they prepare to move on to the Clarendon Team. These are some of the words of gratitude that were offered that day:
"Well, this is it, suddenly upon us – the final goodbye to Simon and family.
‘Parting is such sorrow’ and of course in this instance more so. We cannot just walk away and say ‘see you around’ or we’ll meet up for coffee, as you can when one normally loses a work colleague but ‘tis as it has to be.
As when a child leaves home to enter the wider world for growth and development we wave you off with mixed feelings of pain and joy as you venture forth.
Remember the song “You never know what you’ve got till it’s gone”? Well we here in St James' are definitely going to discover ‘big time’ how Simon knit together gaping holes and potential cracks in his own quiet, gentle, unassuming way; never causing a fuss or making you feel you’d failed, were incompetent or ignorant – a rare gift in today’s society.
It has been a pleasure to have Simon’s initiation into family life here and have him at the helm of all we have achieved; it would not have happened without his faith in us and many skills both in the workplace and priestly office.
In the meantime, we will take up the wheel and steer gently through the year ahead in faith that another will join us to lead and share what we have to offer here in our beautiful corner of Dorset.
Our prayer is that we can welcome our next incumbent with open, generous hearts and minds, be ready to embrace their gifts and talents which, undoubtably, will have been lying dormant just waiting for the right time, place and people in which to germinate.
Thank you Simon……………..
Once the dust has settled and all the boxes packed away in your new home, you will receive a portfolio containing memories of your time with us. A memento to share with the family as they grow up."
