We were treated to a wonderful summer Concert on the 23rd May in St James from the Gillingham Singers. The evening started off with the John Rutter 'The Sprig of Thyme' with traditional folk-songs sung by the choir. This was interspersed beautifully by Emma Hetherington on violin and singing folk songs accompanied herself on the guitar. The second half was on the theme of A Little Night Music and included works by Holst, Elgar George Dyson, and finished with the Traditional welsh anthem All Through the Night.
All was under the direction of Charles Hetherington with David Grierson at the Piano. This was however Charles Hetherington’s farewell concert as he is retiring after nearly ten years with the Choir and the singers certainly gave him a good send off.
A big thank you from St James church as this concert raised money towards our Church and Community Together Project.
Our next music event at St James is on the 25th Jun at 3:00pm when Christopher Mahon will be giving an Organ Recital on the theme “Toccata”: Music to celebrate the feast of St Peter.
