Messy Church is St Mary's Motcombe attempt to be church for families who might want to meet Jesus, belong to their local church and bring up their children as Christians but can't cope with traditional Sunday morning church services.
We meet three times a term for a time of creativity, worship and eating together.
Messy Church meets at, and rather takes over, St Mary's Primary School Motcombe.
All are welcome, but Fire Safety Regulations restrict our numbers so we do need you to tell us if you want to come along.
A typical session will start at 3pm, involve lots of creative activity and finish with a communal meal. Sessions end at 5pm
Our launch session was in January 2011 with 100+ children and adults joining us to explore 'New Beginnings'. This was an enjoyable, rewarding, and somewhat exhausting introduction to Messy Church. Over the years we have covered many themes and seen some amazing pieces of work. Unsurprisingly the food activity always seems to be the most popular with the young.
Feedback; here are some of the comments we have had so far.
"I’ve never encountered such a feeling of community and 'togetherness' before and it is really lovely"’
‘...[We] all adored it. From the crafts to the singing, the lamb to the supper, it was utter heaven and so well organised. Thank you and everyone who helped for your generosity and patience. Look forward to next time!’
"My favourite part of the day was when one of the helpers brought in a baby lamb to show everyone. Afterwards we had shepherds pie followed by cakes and cookies."
"..I hadn't imagined anything so wonderful and engaging and welcoming and special. I had the most magical few hours....."
