Organ Recital at St James’ – 21st July

Jonathan Vaughan will be giving an organ recital at St James' Church, Shaftesbury on Sunday 21st July at 3pm. The recital will be folowed by afternoon tea. The link below leads to the recital programme:

Organ recital St James July 21

Jonathan was born in Croydon in 1981 into a musical British-American family. As a boy he sang in the Addington Palace Choristers under Martin How whose encouragement led to his appointment as Organ Scholar at Croydon Parish Church at the age of thirteen. Before reaching seventeen he had gained both diplomas from the Royal College of Organists, winning most of the prizes.

Jonathan spent a year as Organ Scholar at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle before becoming Organ Scholar at St John’s College, Cambridge under Christopher Robinson and David Hill where highlights included acclaimed recordings of the works of Lennox Berkeley and Sir Edward Elgar on the Naxos label.

After leaving St John’s he spent three years as Assistant Director of Music at St Edmundsbury Cathedral before moving to be Assistant Organist at Wells Cathedral, where he worked for nearly ten years. He leaves a legacy of CD recordings as accompanist, particularly of contemporary music, and he was Musical Director of the Somerset Singers and taught the organ at Wells Cathedral School.

In 2017 he moved to the United States, and following a period serving as Interim Associate Organist of The Cathedral of All Saints, Albany NY, he moved to his current position as Associate Director of Music at Christ Church, Greenwich CT.He regularly plays recitals in the US and the UK, and has recently released his second solo recording on the Regent Records label, of transcriptions of the music of Tchaikovsky.
