St James’ Church, Shaftesbury
We now see Pilgrim peering into a little grotto by the roadside; from a fissure in the rocks facing him a steady flow of water is pouring into a rocky basin below, and then overflowing into a channel which leads away under the track. He cups his hands and finds it both cool and clean enough to drink! His mind strays over many descriptions of water – not stagnant, but living, bubbling, effervescent, refreshing, water of life, eau-de-vie – but isn’t that brandy?! – and then on to “D.O.M.” on the Benedictine bottle labels. Isn’t that short for ‘From God, the greatest and the best”? The monks certainly got that one right!
Come and quench your spiritual thirst with us - you will be very welcome, and there is time for fellowship and refreshments afterwards.
