Weddings, Baptisms (Christenings) and Funerals

Weddings

Churches are special places and there are some things about a church wedding that you just can’t get anywhere else. By getting married in church, you will be getting married in a place where many other couples have been married over the years, possibly including members of your family. We are happy to conduct marriages for those who believe in God and those who do not and will love to pray for God’s blessing on you on your wedding day.

Our clergy team have a distinct role to play in your wedding. We will discuss your wedding with you to create a service that will be personal and memorable, meaningful and beautiful. Many of the words used in the service are laid down by law but we will help you find music and readings that are special to you to make your wedding unique.

Cost:  In 2023, the basic cost of a wedding is around £542 whether your wedding is large or small. This includes the cost of the priest, the church, calling the banns, the certificate, and all administration. Add-ons can include bells, organist and flowers.

Can we get married in a church? This is usually “Yes”, so long as you are not married to anyone else and one of you lives in our area or has a qualifying connection with our churches. Examples of qualifying connections are having been baptised in the parish, having lived in the parish in the past, your parents having lived in the parish in your lifetime, or your parents or grandparents having been married in the parish.  To find out more please contact the office using the details in the ‘contact us’ tab. Get in touch to secure your date and find out how we can help you make your wedding day special.

Baptisms

A Church Christening is a great way to make the start of a child’s life significant. Anyone can get in touch with us to find about having their child christened. During the christening service your child will be baptized with water. It’s the start of an amazing journey of faith for your child and a special day for all your friends and family.

Godparents are really special. They are not just special on the day but special for a child’s life, even when they are grown-up themselves. It’s a life-long commitment which will involve special times and treats, but much more as well.

It can seem that there is a lot to organise for a christening, but remember the important thing is that you and your family are there on the day to see your child baptized at their christening. We can help you plan  to make that day memorable and significant

But most of all enjoy the party – a key part of the day is being with family and friends.

Cost:  There is no cost to anyone bringing their child to be christened.

Once you have contacted us, we will ask you to complete the booking form below:

Funerals

We’ll always be here to help you wherever you choose to have a funeral. A Church of England funeral allows you to give thanks for the unique person you knew and loved in a way that gives comfort and hope. A Church of England funeral doesn’t have to be in a church, we can lead the whole funeral service in a different place, or, a church service can be built into a part of the day, wherever the funeral takes place.

Remember you don’t have to be religious or a churchgoer to have a Church of England funeral – it is open to all. Music can be traditional including hymns or any appropriate music that reflects the character or interest of the person who has died. Readings or poems again reflect the person or how you felt about them but will always include a reading from the Bible.

Whatever your beliefs, hearing God’s promises that death is not the end can bring a sense of hope and comfort, even at this difficult time. We are here to meet your needs and help guide you.

Cost:  Service only - £190.00  Plus Funeral Director’s fees.

After service Receptions can be held in some of our churches.
